A hill range in central Tochigi Prefecture, stretching from the eastern foot of Mt. Takahara to the southeast. It is also called the Shiona Hills, as it is the border between Shioya and Nasu counties. It is mainly composed of Quaternary layers, and has an elevation of 200-300m. It is gently undulating and lowers to the southeast, forming the watershed between the Naka River and the Kinu River. The Egawa and Arakawa rivers, which flow to the southeast, are tributaries of the Naka River, and have eroded the hills to create dendritic valleys and are highly meandering. River terraces have developed along the coast, and the small Karasuyama basin is located at the confluence. The lower river terraces are used for rice paddies, the higher river terraces for farmland, and the hill slopes are mainly for farmland and forests.
