Tsunemoto Yoshikawa

Japanese: 吉川経基 - きっかわつねもと

1428-1520 A military commander from the Muromachi to Sengoku period.
Born in the first year of the Shocho era. The eldest son of Yoshikawa Yukitsune. A local lord of Oasa, Yamagata County, Aki (Hiroshima Prefecture). During the Onin War, he served alongside Hosokawa Katsumoto of the Eastern Army, expanding his territory into Iwami (Shimane Prefecture) and Aki. In 1526, he sent reinforcements to Akamatsu Masanori, the governor of Harima (Hyogo Prefecture), and was appointed land steward of Harima's Fukui Manor. He excelled in waka poetry and calligraphy. He passed away on January 8, 1521, at the age of 93. His original name was Mototsune, and he was commonly known as Jiro Saburo.

正長(しょうちょう)元年生まれ。吉川之経(ゆきつね)の長男。安芸(あき)(広島県)山県郡大朝(おおあさ)の国衆(くにしゅう)。応仁(おうにん)の乱では東軍の細川勝元にしたがい功をたて,石見(いわみ)(島根県),安芸で領土を拡大。文明19年播磨(はりま)(兵庫県)の守護赤松政則に援軍をおくり,播磨福井荘の地頭職をえる。和歌,書にすぐれた。永正(えいしょう)17年1月8日死去。93歳。初名は元経。通称は次郎三郎。
