…He was elected governor three times, and his political skills in governing a rapidly changing state drew national attention. In 1952, he ran for the Republican presidential nomination, but lost to D.D. Eisenhower. In 1953, he was appointed Chief Justice by President Eisenhower, and served in that position for 17 years until his retirement in 1969, marking an era in the Supreme Court known as the Warren Court. He handed down rulings that aimed for equality, such as ruling that racial school segregation was unconstitutional (Brown case) and correcting disparities in the number of seats based on the one-person, one-vote principle, as well as rulings that thoroughly protected human rights in criminal proceedings, and he consistently maintained the stance that the Supreme Court, as the ``people's court,'' should play an active role in reforming social injustice and inequality. …
