Abū Tammām - Abū Tammām (English spelling)

Arab poet. Born near Damascus, Syria. Traveled through Egypt, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Iran. He wrote poems praising the seventh Abbasid caliph, Ma'mun, and the eighth, Mu'tasim, as well as generals and princes, and poems praising military prowess. His collection of poems includes "Hamasa" (Brave), which contains many masterpieces praising freedom and bravery. He is one of the greatest poets in the history of Arab literature.

アラブの詩人。シリアのダマスカス近郊に生まれる。エジプト、アルメニア、アゼルバイジャン、イランの地を転々とした。アッバース朝第7代カリフ、マームーン、8代ムータシムをはじめ将軍、諸侯をたたえる詩や武勇を称賛する詩をつくった。編詩集に『ハマーサ』(勇壮)があり、自由と剛勇をたたえた多くの傑作が収められている。アラブ文学史上最大の詩人の一人。
