…Father and son, British watercolorists. The father, Alexander Cozens (c. 1717-1786), is said to have been born in Russia, but was in England in 1742. After a short stay in Italy, he returned to England in 1746 and established a family of watercolor landscape painters. He invented a technique called blot drawing, which made use of the color stains that accidentally appear on the paper, and became a pioneer of British Romantic landscape painting. …
