The birth of domestic cartoon films began in 1916, 18 years after the import of motion pictures, with three men: Shimokawa Aoten and Kouchi Junichi, members of the comic magazine Tokyo Pack, which was centered around Kitazawa Rakuten, and Kitayama Seitaro, the planner and manager of the Fusan Society, a gathering of Western-style painters. They began by analyzing the actual works of E. Cole and others, which were shown at the time under the title Tokobo New Art Book, and groping around to unravel the tricks behind them.
