Lath - Lath (English spelling)

The original meaning of the word is lath, komai, etc., but lath is a general term for wire mesh used for wall underlayment, plaster underlayment, etc. There are various types, such as JISA5505 metal lath, A5504 wire lath, G3351 expanded metal, G3551 welded wire mesh, G3552 diamond-shaped wire mesh, G3553 crimped wire mesh, and G3554 rhombus wire mesh. Depending on the shape of the mesh, it can be divided into flat lath, knotted lath, corrugated lath, ribbed lath, and expanded metal. Metal lath is usually 0.6 mm thick, 60 cm x 180 cm in size, and weighs about 1.5 kg. Rib lath has ribs to give it rigidity, and comes in widths of 61 cm and 99 cm. There are two types of expanded metal, XS and XG, with XS being used for lightweight partitions and ceilings, and XG being used for lightweight roofs and floor underlayment, etc. Both are used to improve the adhesion of mortar and plaster. When double-layered, they are less likely to crack. In addition to being used as a base, they can also be used for surface treatment and as wire mesh for fences.

木ずり、小舞(こまい)などが本来の意味であるが、壁下地、塗り下地などに使われる金網を総称して、ラスとよんでいる。種類としては、JISA5505メタルラス、A5504ワイヤラス、G3351エキスパンドメタル、G3551溶接金網、G3552ひし形金網、G3553クリンプ金網、G3554きっ甲金網がある。また網の形状により、平ラス、こぶラス、波形ラス、リブをもったリブラス、エキスパンドメタルなどに分けられる。メタルラスは普通、厚さ0.6ミリメートル、一枚の大きさは60センチメートル×180センチメートル、重さは約1.5キログラム程度のものが一般に使用されている。リブラスは剛性をもたせるためにリブをつけたもので、幅は61センチメートルと99センチメートルのものがある。エキスパンドメタルにはXSとXGの二種類があり、XSは軽量間仕切や天井に使われ、XGは軽量屋根、床下地などに使用する。いずれもモルタルや漆食(しっくい)などの絡みをよくするために使用される。二重張りにすると亀裂(きれつ)が入りにくい。これらは下地以外に表面処理を行いフェンスなどの金網としての用途ももっている。
