Camphausen - Ludolf Camphausen

Prussian businessman and politician. He founded the Rhine Steamship Company in 1841, and served as president of the Cologne Chamber of Commerce from 1839 to 1847. He also served as a member of the Rhine State Parliament from 1843, and in 1847, he criticized the government as a liberal leader in the Prussian United States Parliament. In 1848, immediately after the outbreak of the March Revolution, he became Prime Minister of Prussia, and worked hard to gradually transition to a constitutional government, but resigned halfway through. From July of that year, as Prussian plenipotentiary under the provisional central government in Frankfurt, he advocated the promotion of the King of Prussia to German Emperor and the unification of a Little Germany. He served as a Prussian senator from 1849 to 1851. After German unification in 1871, he retired from politics.

プロイセンの実業家、政治家。1841年にライン汽船会社を創設、1839～1847年ケルン商業会議所会頭を歴任した。また1843年以来ライン州議会議員となり、1847年プロイセン連合州議会で自由主義の領袖(りょうしゅう)として政府批判の論陣を張った。1848年、三月革命の勃発(ぼっぱつ)直後プロイセン首相となり、立憲政体への漸進的移行に努力したが道なかばで辞職。同年7月以降フランクフルトの臨時中央政府のもとでプロイセン全権として、プロイセン国王のドイツ皇帝への推挙と小ドイツ的統一を提唱した。1849～1851年にはプロイセン上院議員。1871年のドイツ統一以後は政界を引退した。
