Saint Paul

Japanese: セント・ポール(英語表記)Saint Paul
Saint Paul
The capital of the state of Minnesota in the southeastern part of the United States. Population 262,000 (1994). Located on the left bank of the Mississippi River, it forms a twin city with Minneapolis on the opposite bank, with a metropolitan population of 2.62 million (1992). It is a commercial, industrial and transportation center in an agricultural region, and is home to many higher education institutions, including the University of Minnesota. In the first half of the 19th century, settlements developed and the city was called Pig's Eye, but the name was changed to St. Paul's after a chapel built in 1841 was dedicated to St. Paul.
