Kikutei

…The family status was gradually formed from the end of the Heian period, and was almost fixed in the Kamakura period, and was called the Seven Seika. That is, the seven families were the Sanjo family (commonly known as Tenpōrin), the Saionji family and its branch, the Imadegawa (Kikutei) family, the Tokudaiji family (all of which are of the Kan'in line), the Kazan'in family and the Oimikado family (all of which are of the Kazan'in line), which were descended from the Northern branch of the Fujiwara clan, and the Koga family of the Minamoto clan. However, at the beginning of the Edo period, Ichijō Akiyoshi's (Emperor Goyozei's son) son Fuyumoto established the Daigo family, and Prince Hachijō's son Tadayuki established the Hirohata family, and both were ranked as Seika families, making up the Nine Seika families, but no one from these two families has ever been promoted to the position of Grand Minister of State. …
