The practice of singing Imayo lyrics with the tunes of gagaku songs (singing instead of the instrumental parts), especially Etenraku, began in the mid-Heian period, and was performed at Buddhist events such as Ennen. Such Etenraku Imayo accompanied by the koto developed into Tsukushigoto, which became the basis of koto music. …　今様の歌詞を，雅楽の唱歌（しようが）の節(楽器の部分を代りに歌う)，特に《越殿楽（えてんらく）》の節をつけて歌うことが平安時代中期からおこり，仏教行事の〈延年〉などで行われた。このような〈越殿楽今様〉の中で箏を伴ったものが〈筑紫箏（つくしごと）〉に発展して箏曲の基礎となった。また一弦琴に取り入れられたり，筑前地方の民謡〈筑前今様〉が《黒田節》として歌われたり，さらに明治時代の学校唱歌や賛美歌にも旋律が取り入れられるなど，近世歌謡への影響が大きい。…
