[Systematics and classification]
Animals with characteristics relatively similar to birds are the thecodonts, a class of reptiles that flourished in the Mesozoic era, and in particular the pseudocrocodiles. The pseudocrocodiles were small, carnivorous reptiles with sharp teeth in their jaws and relatively small forelimbs that supported their bodies on two legs like birds.
