Kim Pyo Bong

Japanese: 金枓奉 - きんとほう

1890‐1961
A Korean nationalist and a united front socialist. He joined the Patriotic Enlightenment Movement, studied Korean language and literature under Zhou Shijing, and taught at a private ethnic school. He went to Shanghai immediately after the March 1st Independence Movement and learned about communism through Lee Dong-hui and others. After 1935, he joined Kim Won-bong's Korean National Revolutionary Party, but moved to Yenan around 1942 and became chairman of the Korean Independence League. After liberation, he returned to North Korea and held important positions including chairman of the New Democratic Party and the Workers' Party, but retired from public office in March 1958 due to the downfall of the Yenan faction.

朝鮮の民族運動家。統一戦線型の社会主義者である。愛国啓蒙運動に加わり，周時経に師事して朝鮮語文を研究，民族系私立学校の教壇に立つ。三･一独立運動直後上海に渡り，李東輝等を通じて共産主義を知る。1935年以後金元鳳の朝鮮民族革命党に加わっていたが，42年ころ延安に移り朝鮮独立同盟委員長。解放後は北朝鮮に帰り，新民党，労働党委員長をはじめ要職を歴任したが，延安派の失脚により，58年3月以後公職から退いた。
