Born on November 19, 1910. In 1954, while serving as an assistant professor at the University of Tokyo, he established a human geography department in the College of Liberal Arts, where he established the foundations of urban geography. In 1956, he became a professor at the same university, and later a professor at Seijo University. In 1951, he became the first Japanese to receive the Karl Ritter Prize from the Berlin Geographical Society. He passed away on April 7, 1993, at the age of 82.
