A town in Ishikari District, Hokkaido. The southern part is the rice paddy area of ​​the Ishikari Plain, and the northern part is the narrow valley of the Tobetsu River, with the Aoyama Dam upstream. It produces the largest amount of rice in the area, and forestry is also thriving. It is connected to Sapporo by the Sassho Line, and with the completion of the Sapporo Ohashi Bridge, it has become a new transportation hub in the central Hokkaido region. 422.86 km2 . Population: 18,766 (2010).
