Yellow-crowned cuckoo - Yellow-crowned cuckoo

A perennial plant of the lily family (APG classification: Liliaceae). The stems are 40-80 cm tall and curve as they hang down. The leaves are lanceolate and grow in two rows on the left and right sides of the stem. From September to October, large yellow flowers bloom one at a time from each leaf axil, totaling a dozen or so. It grows on rocky cliffs in the central Kii Peninsula of Honshu.

ユリ科（APG分類：ユリ科）の多年草。茎は高さ40～80センチメートルで、垂れ下がって生育するので湾曲する。葉は披針(ひしん)形で、茎の左右に2列につく。9～10月に、葉腋(ようえき)から黄色で大形の花を1個ずつ、合計十数個つける。本州の紀伊半島中部の岩壁に生育する。
