Japanese: 政友会 - せいゆうかい

A representative political party from the late Meiji to early Showa periods. Its official name was the Rikken Seiyukai. During the Showa period, it rivalled the Rikken Minseito (Minseito) as the two major parties, ushering in an era of party politics. It was formed in 1900 under the initiative of Ito Hirobumi. It brought together bureaucrats, the Imperial Party, and the Constitutional Party, which was a successor to the old Liberal Party that was closely tied to the interests of landowners. It also gained the support of major zaibatsu such as Mitsui, Yasuda, and Shibusawa. Thereafter, Ito, Saionji Kinmochi, Hara Takashi, Takahashi Korekiyo, Tanaka Giichi, and Inukai Tsuyoshi formed a cabinet as Seiyukai's presidents. In 1939, the party split into two factions, led by Kuhara Fusanosuke and Nakajima Chikuhei, over the issue of succession as president. In 1940, it was absorbed into the New System Movement.

明治後期から昭和前期にいたる代表的政党。正式の名称は立憲政友会。昭和期には立憲民政党（民政党）と二大政党として対抗し，政党政治の時代を現出した。1900年伊藤博文の主導で結成。官僚，帝国党のほか地主利益に密接な旧自由党の流れをくむ憲政党が結集。三井，安田，渋沢らの大財閥の支持も得た。以後伊藤，西園寺公望，原敬，高橋是清，田中義一，犬養毅らが政友会総裁として組閣。1939年総裁後継問題で久原房之助，中島知久平の２派に分裂。1940年新体制運動に吸収された。
