Company Limited

…Like other economic systems, joint stock companies are the product of economic development, and it was only in the 19th century, as industrialization progressed, that they were institutionally perfected and began to play an important role economically. In the UK, the establishment of joint stock companies was liberalized and the system changed from a patent system to a rule system in 1844 (Companies Registration Act), and in 1855 (Limited Liability Act) the principle of limited liability for shareholders was established along with the development of the securities market, and the inscription "Company Limited, Co., Ltd." after the company name became mandatory. Based on these experiences, the first modern joint stock company law was enacted in 1862. And it was not until the last quarter of the 19th century that joint stock companies in the original sense of publicly offering capital took root in general industry, not in railroads or banking. …
