...His pen name was Gakuso, and although he was relatively short-lived among the three Ami, many of the records from that time are related to painting, and he appears as a kokukou (national craftsman) and kokutei (national master). In 1480 (Bunmei 12), he gave a painting called "Viewing a Waterfall" (Nezu Museum) to Kenko Shokei (Keishoki, birth and death years unknown) of Kenchoji Temple in Kamakura, who had come to Kyoto to learn painting. It is inscribed with notes by three Zen monks from the Five Mountains of Kyoto, including Gekko Shukyo, and bears the inscription "Gakuso Shin'ei 50 years old" and the red-lettered seal "Gakuso," making it almost the only authentic relic of Geiami. ...
