[Died] August 23, 1723. Khalifa Romanian writer and politician. Father of Russian poet A. Cantemir. Born into the royal family of the Principality of Moldova, he was educated in the Ottoman Empire as a hostage until he reached adulthood. In 1710, he ascended to the throne of the Principality of Moldova, allied with Russia and fought against the Ottoman army for the country's independence, but was defeated and fled to Russia in 1711. He was made a duke as one of Peter the Great's close associates. He wrote Historia incrementorum atque decrementorum aulae Othomanicae (1716), written in Latin and later translated into various languages, and Descriptio Moldaviae (16), a study of the history, geography, and folklore of Moldova.

[Died] April 11, 1744, Paris. Russian poet and diplomat. One of the founders of Russian classical literature. His major work is Satire I-IX (written 1729-39, published 62 times).

ルーマニアの文学者,政治家。ロシアの詩人 A.カンテミールの父。モルドバ公国の王家に生れ,成人するまで人質としてオスマン帝国で教育を受けた。 1710年にモルドバ公国の王位につき,ロシアと結んで国の独立のためオスマン帝国軍と戦ったが敗北し,11年にロシアへ亡命。ピョートル大帝の側近の一人として公爵に叙せられた。ラテン語で書かれ,のちに各国語に訳された『オスマン帝国興亡史』 Historia incrementorum atque decrementorum aulae Othomanicae (1716) ,モルドバの歴史,地理,民俗の研究書『モルドバ国誌』 Descriptio Moldaviae (16) などを著わした。
