A long coat for women's kimono. It was first sold by Shirokiya Kimono Store in Nihonbashi, Tokyo in 1886. It had a narrow doyuki or loofah collar and was made of fabrics such as cashmere, celluloid, velvet, and satin. Later, the material, length, and shape changed depending on the purpose, such as protection from the cold, rain, and dust, and it developed into a variety of kimono coats.
