A city in Katanga Province in the southeastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is located about 138 km northwest of Lubumbashi, at an altitude of 1,270 m. Copper ore was discovered nearby in 1892, and the city was built in 1917 as part of the development of the copper mine. Its former name, Jadotville, was named after J. Jadot, the president of the copper mining company Union Miniere at the time. The company was nationalized in 1967. It has developed into one of the country's leading centers of copper mining and processing. Copper ore dressing, refining, and copper and cobalt electromelting are well-developed, as are related industries such as the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, and the manufacture and repair of mining machinery. Population: 367,219 (2004 estimate).

コンゴ民主共和国南東部，カタンガ州の都市。ルブンバシの北西約 138km，標高 1270mの高地に位置。1892年，付近に銅鉱が発見され，1917年銅鉱山の開発に伴って建設。旧称のジャドトビル Jadotvilleは当時の銅山会社ユニオンミニエールの社長 J.ジャドトにちなんだもの。同社は 1967年国営化された。国内屈指の銅採掘・加工の中心地として発展。銅の選鉱，精錬，銅とコバルトの電気溶解をはじめ化学工業，薬品工業，鉱山用機械の製造，修理などの関連工業が発達している。人口 36万7219 (2004推計) 。
