Kannawa [Hot Springs] - Kannawa

...The long-known "Beppu Eight Hot Springs" consist of Beppu Onsen (with a variety of spring types, including earthen bicarbonate springs, salt springs, and sodium bicarbonate springs; 28-112°C) in the south of Ishigakihara, Hamawaki Onsen (simple spring, 50-60°C), Kankaiji Onsen (simple spring, pure salt spring, 57°C), Horita Onsen (simple carbonated spring, 80-100°C), Kamegawa Onsen (simple spring, pure salt spring, 50-70°C) in the north of Ishigakihara, Shibaseki Onsen (iron carbonate spring, 69°C), Kannawa Onsen (acidic green aluminium springs and others; 52-90°C), and Alum Onsen (alum-containing green aluminium springs and others; 38-98°C). These are natural springs that gush forth on fault lines created by crustal movement, and the large spring sources and large fumaroles that are particularly prevalent around Kannawa Onsen are known as "Hells," and tours of these hells are a highlight of tourist courses.
