Yoshisuke Totsugi - Tetsugyokai

A Soto sect monk from the Kamakura period. Born in Inatsu, Echizen (Fukui Prefecture). At the age of 13, he became a monk by becoming a priest at the Bodhidharma Soba-ji Temple, and in 1241 (Ninji 2), he returned to Dogen at Kosho-ji Temple in Uji, and when Dogen moved to Eiheiji Temple in Echizen, he served as the head priest and temple supervisor. After Dogen's death, he visited Koun Ejo and inherited his teachings, and visited the Five Mountains of Kyoto and Kamakura, as well as the temples of Kinzan and Tendo-san in China. After returning to Japan, he worked to improve the buildings of Eiheiji and became the third abbot of Eiheiji. After Kaijo's death, he moved to Daijoji Temple in Kaga (Ishikawa Prefecture) and became its founder during an internal conflict at Eiheiji Temple. He passed away on September 14, 1271. One of his disciples was Keizan Jokin, who built the foundation for the development of the Soto sect.
