…He went to Paris in 1694, and from 1723 he was Music Director of the Royal Chapel under the reign of Louis XV, and from 1730 he was General Director of the Opera. His specialty was opera ballet, but he also contributed to the establishment of the cantata-style motet, succeeding Mr Delalande (1657-1726), in the field of religious music.
