The capital of Bac Ninh Province (population 941,000 in 1999) in northern Vietnam. Population 33,849 (1989). Located about 30 km northeast of Hanoi, it is served by national highways 1 and 18. The land is flat, there are many rice paddies in the surrounding area, and it is a thriving agricultural product distribution center. The town has many citadels and temples. Dap Kou, located on the Son Khoi River a few kilometers north of the town, serves as the town's outer port.
