...Here, the temperature lapse rate is less than 2°C per km, so the atmosphere is stable and no convection occurs, and it is also called the convection stop surface. There are three types of tropopause: the tropical tropopause (altitude about 16-18 km), the mid-latitude tropopause (about 10-12 km), and the polar tropopause (about 8-10 km). The tropopause is not connected, but the first two are separated at about 30° north latitude, and the subtropical jet stream blows across the boundary between them.
