...The area of ​​black soil in Japan is about 5.5 million hectares, accounting for about 15% of the country's land area, and half of the total of 2.2 million hectares of farmland and orchards is black soil. In other countries, it is called Ando soil or Andosol, with the word "ando" coming from the Japanese word "an-do," which means dark soil. Andosols account for just under 0.8% of the Earth's land area, and in comparison, the proportion of black soil in Japan, a volcanic country, is extremely high.
