Kantan (Oecanthus longicauda)

Japanese: カンタン(邯鄲) - カンタン（英語表記）Oecanthus longicauda

Known as the queen of chirping insects, this insect is a representative autumn chirping insect and a type of cricket (illustration). It is an insect of the Orthoptera family, family Gryllidae. It is medium-sized and exceptionally light yellow-green or light yellow-brown in color among crickets, and males chirp during the day, making a delicate, not very loud continuous "rrrrrrr" sound. It is found throughout Japan, Sakhalin, Primorsky Krai, the Korean Peninsula, and other areas. It is often seen on the leaves of plants such as kudzu and mugwort. Its body length is 11-15 mm, and when the wing tips are included, it is about 23 mm. Its head is small. Its antennae are long, about twice the length of its body.

鳴く虫の女王といわれ，秋の鳴く虫の代表種で，コオロギの1種（イラスト）。直翅目カンタン科の昆虫。中型で，コオロギの中では例外的な淡黄緑色ないし淡黄褐色をしており，雄は昼間からルルルルル……という繊細であまり強くない連続音を出して鳴く。日本全国，サハリン，沿海州，朝鮮半島などに分布。クズやヨモギなどの葉上によく見られる。体長11～15mm，翅端まで入れると23mmほど。頭部は小さい。触角は長く，体長の約2倍。
