This refers to the three wars between India and Pakistan since the partition of India and Pakistan in August 1947. The conflict between the two countries began with mutual distrust over the nation-building ideas that led to partition and has developed around the issue of Kashmir's sovereignty. In October 1947, Pashtun tribes invaded the Kashmir Valley. The Kashmiri prince at the time (a Hindu) believed that Pakistan was behind the invasion and requested India's support to incorporate the region into India, which is how the conflict between India and Pakistan began. Indian soldiers were airlifted in and launched a sweeping operation to clear the Kashmir Valley, and were largely successful in subduing it.

1947年8月のインド･パキスタン分離独立以降，印パ両国の3度にわたる戦争を指す。両国の対立は，分離独立にいたる国家建設理念への相互不信を起点とし，カシミールの帰属問題を軸として展開されてきた。47年10月，パシュトゥーン部族がカシミール渓谷に侵入し，その背後にパキスタンの手があるとみた当時のカシミール藩王(ヒンドゥー教徒)はインドへの編入を求め，インドの支援を要請したことから印パ対立は始まった。空輸されたインド兵はカシミール渓谷掃討作戦を展開し，ほぼ制圧に成功した。
