Simplified Chinese - Kantaiji

The name used in the People's Republic of China for abbreviated Chinese characters. In 1956, the State Council promulgated the "Chinese Character Simplification Plan," which established 515 simplified characters that are now used as the official characters, replacing the traditional traditional characters (original characters). At the same time, simplified forms were also established for 54 radicals (radicals and side characters that form parts of Chinese characters), and including those added in 1964, there are now approximately 2,200 simplified characters. Many of the strokes are boldly omitted, and while some match Japanese abbreviated characters (commonly used Chinese characters), many have different shapes.

漢字の略字に対する中華人民共和国での呼称。1956年に国務院が公布した「漢字簡化方案」で515字の簡体字が制定され、従来の繁体字(はんたいじ)（本字）にかわり、正式字体として使用されている。同時に54種の偏旁(へんぼう)（漢字の部分をなす偏や旁(つくり)）にも簡体が定められ、これによるもの、および1964年の追加分を含め、約2200字が簡体字となった。字画の大胆な省略が多く、日本の略字（常用漢字）と一致するものもあるが、字形の異なるものが少なくない。
