Agadir Incident - Agadir Incident

On July 1, 1911, Germany sent warships to the port of Agadir in Morocco to threaten France. Also known as the Second Moroccan Affair, it was one of the international crises that occurred before the outbreak of World War I. Morocco was a French protectorate, but in 1911 a rebellion broke out in the capital, Fez, and French troops were sent to put down the rebellion. Germany decided to send warships in the name of protecting its own interests, which temporarily strained German-French relations. However, as Britain strongly supported France, Germany only received minor concessions from France and suffered a diplomatic defeat.

1911年7月1日、ドイツがモロッコのアガディール港に軍艦を派遣し、フランスを威嚇した事件。第二次モロッコ事件ともいい、第一次世界大戦勃発(ぼっぱつ)前に起こった国際危機の一つである。モロッコはフランスの保護領となっていたが、1911年首都フェズで反乱が起こり、その鎮圧のためにフランス軍が出兵した。ドイツは自国の権益保護を名目に軍艦を派遣するという挙に出、独仏関係は一時大いに緊張した。しかしイギリスがフランスを強く支持したため、ドイツはフランスからわずかな譲歩を得ただけで、外交的敗北を喫した。
