〘noun〙① During the Muromachi period, a method of confiscating goods from those who violated the privileges of the za. Merchants who joined the za (zanin and zashu) were granted exclusive rights to certain goods by the honjo, but other merchants had to pay tax on them, and if these privileges were violated, the zashu would seek a ruling from the honjo or the shogunate and take countermeasures by confiscating goods. ② A policy of controlling prohibited goods implemented by warring lords and others to control distribution within their domains. *Yuki Clan New Laws (1556), Article 76: "When laws are established and maintained, no one should complain that they should be deemed to be unconstitutional ."
