In the same category are the Kankakariya of Miyako Island, the Munuchi and Nigaibi of the Yaeyama Islands, and also called Toki-Yuta. The origin of the word is unclear, but it is said to describe the state of someone who is possessed by a god and constantly blurts out nonsense, as "Yuta mouth" or "Yutayun" means to talk a lot. There is also a theory that it originates from the shaman Yutakan of the Ural-Altai region. Yuta contracts the shaman disease of the god Dari and visits various shaman houses, and while continuing his journey in search of the god, visiting sacred places such as Utaki (mountains) and Gusuku (castles), he is possessed by the god and becomes a true shaman. *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "kankakariya" are listed below.
