A former town in Nishimorokata County in the southern part of Miyazaki Prefecture. Facing a tributary of the Oyo River, it has a strong rural character. Rice, vegetable and livestock farming are thriving. The artificial lake Nojiri Lake created by Iwase Dam and the Okinoo Gorge area are tourist destinations. Take a bus from Kobayashi City. 宮崎県南部，西諸県(にしもろかた)郡の旧町。大淀川の支流に臨み，農村的色彩が強い。米作，野菜栽培，畜産が盛ん。岩瀬ダムの人造湖野尻湖，沖之尾(おきのお)峡一帯は観光地。小林市からバス。2010年３月小林市へ編入。88.86km2。8670人（2005）。
