Kawatsura

A district in Yuzawa City, southern Akita Prefecture. The former Kawatsura Town became Inaniwa Kawatsura Town in 1956 (Showa 31), changed its name to Inagawa Town in 1966, and was merged into Yuzawa City in 2005 (Heisei 17). It is known for Kawatsura lacquerware, which the feudal lord Onodera encouraged his vassals to do as a side job in the Middle Ages. Today, production of everyday items such as bowls and trays is still thriving, and the area is designated as a national traditional craft. The Kawatsura Lacquerware Traditional Crafts Museum is located here. National Route 398 runs through the area.

秋田県南部、湯沢市の一地区。旧川連町は、1956年（昭和31）に稲庭川連町(いなにわかわつらまち)となり、1966年稲川町と改称、さらに2005年（平成17）湯沢市に合併。中世に領主小野寺氏が家臣の内職として奨励したという川連漆器で知られ、現在も椀(わん)や盆の日用品を中心に生産が盛んで、国の伝統的工芸品に指定されている。川連漆器伝統工芸館がつくられている。国道398号が通じる。
