Caretti, A.

...The scientific name of cacao, Theobroma , means "Grain of the Gods" and was named after a legend. Cocoa beans were brought to Spain by Columbus and then Cortés in the early 16th century, but their use was kept secret, and it was not until 1607 that the Italian A. Caretti began producing drinking chocolate that they became known to the public. From Spain, it spread to Austria and then to France through the royal family, and the number of enthusiasts had increased by the time Louis XIV and the Spanish princess Maria Teresa married in 1660.
