…Oni and Tengu are both spiritual beings incarnated as mountain gods, and their masks also have their origins in the Gigaku masks. Among them, there are two types of Tengu masks: the Chido mask, which is used to ward off evil spirits as a prelude to the Gigaku performance, and the Karura mask, which is used to eat poisonous snakes. As Chido has a nose-high face and Karura has a crow face, two types of Tengu were created: the nose-high Tengu and the crow Tengu. Next, there was a belief that vengeful spirits could become Tengu, and this was called "falling into the path of evil." …
