Mount Kariba

It is the main peak of the Kariba Mountains at the base of the Oshima Peninsula in southwest Hokkaido. It is 1,520 meters above sea level. It is on the border between the former Setanacho district of Setana Town under the jurisdiction of the Hiyama Subprefectural Bureau and Shimamaki Village under the jurisdiction of the Shiribeshi General Subprefectural Bureau. It was formerly written as Karibayama. The mountain's name comes from the Ainu word "Karinpaushi," meaning a place with many cherry blossoms. It is an aspite-type rock formed by amphibole pyroxene andesite that erupted in the Pleistocene (Pleistocene) epoch on top of the Neogene System. The former JNR Setana Line has been converted to a bus line, but there is a course that takes you by car from Setana to Higashi-Ozato and then climbs the mountain from there.

北海道南西部、渡島(おしま)半島の基部にある狩場山地の主峰。標高1520メートル。檜山(ひやま)振興局管内のせたな町旧瀬棚町(せたなちょう)地区と後志(しりべし)総合振興局管内の島牧村との境界にある。かつては刈場山とも記した。山名はアイヌ語の「カリンパウシ」に由来し、サクラの多い所の意である。新第三系の上に角閃石(かくせんせき)輝石(きせき)安山岩が更新世（洪積世）に噴出したものでアスピーテ型をなしている。旧国鉄瀬棚線はバスに転換されているが瀬棚から東大里まで車で行き、そこから登山するコースがある。
