An old town in Toyoura County, on the western edge of Yamaguchi Prefecture. The main settlement is Takibe, known as a servant market since early modern times, and it lies along the San'in Main Line. Rice farming, mandarin orange cultivation, and fishing are thriving here. There is the Doigahama ruins (historic site), a mass graveyard from the early Yayoi period, and Kabe Island is a migration site for cormorants (a natural monument). In February 2005, it was incorporated into Shimonoseki City along with Toyoura County's Kikugawa Town, Toyoda Town, and Toyoura Town. 168.60 km2 . Population: 13,214 (2003). 山口県西端，豊浦郡の旧町。近世以来の奉公市で知られる滝部が主集落で，山陰本線に沿う。米作，ミカン栽培と漁業が盛ん。弥生時代前期の集団墓地土井ヶ浜遺跡（史跡）があり，壁島はウの渡来地（天然記念物）。2005年２月豊浦郡菊川町，豊田町，豊浦町と下関市へ編入。168.60km2。１万3214人（2003）。
