Le Tarn (English spelling)

Japanese: タルン[川]（英語表記）Le Tarn

A tributary on the right bank of the Garonne River in southern France. It is about 375 km long. It originates at Lozère (1,702 m above sea level), the highest peak in the southern Massif Central, flows west and joins the Garonne near Moissac. In the upper reaches, where it separates the Sauveterre and Méjeans plateaus, it forms a deep limestone gorge, and livestock farming (cattle) is thriving in the surrounding area. Grape cultivation is carried out in the middle and lower reaches, and Albi is an industrial center that uses electricity and coal. [Ono Yugo]

フランス南部を流れるガロンヌ川右岸の支流。全長約375km。マシフ･サントラル南部の最高峰ロゼールLozère(標高1702m)に源を発し，西流してモアサック付近でガロンヌ川に合流する。上流のソーブテール，メジャン両高原を分かつ部分では石灰岩の深い峡谷をつくり，周辺では牧畜(牛)が盛ん。中･下流域ではブドウ栽培が行われ，アルビは電力と石炭を利用した工業の中心地。【小野有五】
