Art term. A group of German Expressionists centered in Munich. The "Blue Rider" group. Kandinsky and others left the Munich New Artists' Union due to differences of opinion, and the group was formed in 1911, following the Dresden Brücke ("Bridge" group). "Blue Rider" was originally an art yearbook, and only one issue was published in 1912. This editorial team organized the first exhibition in December 1911, and the second exhibition the following year. Exhibitors included Kandinsky, Marc, Münter, Kubin, Klee, Macke, Campendonk, and Schoenberg, and A. Rousseau, Picasso, and Delaunay were also invited. Guided by Kandinsky's spirituality and Marc's religiosity, the group developed expressionism and became the mother of the first abstract paintings, but it naturally disappeared in 1914 with the outbreak of World War I.
