Japanese: 監査請求 - かんさせいきゅう

A type of direct request by residents recognized by the Local Autonomy Law. It allows residents of local governments the authority and procedures to make a request for an audit of the affairs of that organization or its organs. The signatures of more than 1/50 of the total number of voters are required. On the other hand, it allows residents the authority and procedures to make a request for an audit individually as a preliminary hearing procedure for a residents' lawsuit (public lawsuit) regarding the existence of illegal transactions such as the management of property or the expenditure of public funds by local governments.

地方自治法の認める住民の直接請求の一種。地方公共団体の住民に対し，その団体またはその機関の〈事務の監査請求〉をする権限と手続を認めている。有権者総数の50分の１以上の連署が必要。他方，地方公共団体の財産管理や公金支出などの不法処理の有無などに対しては，住民訴訟（民衆訴訟）の前審手続として住民が個々に監査を請求する〈住民監査請求〉の権限と手続を認めている。
