Kültepe (English spelling)

Japanese: キュルテペ（英語表記）Kültepe

An archaeological hill (tepe) on the plateau south of the Kizilırmak River in the Cappadocia region of Turkey. About 20km southwest of the hill is the ancient Roman city of Kayseri (old name Caesarea), occupying an important transportation location. Winkler excavated the site in 1906, and Hrozny investigated it in 1925. Excavations have been ongoing by Turkish archaeologists since 1948. The ruins of the capital city, called Kanish in Assyrian and Nesa in Hittite, are the remains of an Assyrian commercial colony established here around the 19th to 18th centuries BC, and a large number of economic documents written in Assyrian have been excavated.

トルコのカッパドキア地方，クズルウルマク川南方台地上の遺跡丘(テペ)。丘の南西約20kmにはローマ時代からの古都カイセリ(古名カエサレア)があり，交通上の要地を占めている。1906年にウィンクラーが発掘し，25年にはフロズニーが調査を行った。48年以来，トルコの考古学者による発掘が続けられている。アッシリア語でカニシュ，ヒッタイト語でネサと呼ばれた都城の遺跡で，前19～前18世紀ころ，ここにアッシリアの商業植民市が置かれ，アッシリア語で書かれた経済文書が多量に出土している。
