Marquis of Caraba

…This is a folk tale retold by the French author Charles Perrault in his 1697 book, Tales and Morals of Old. It tells the story of how a young son, who was only given a cat as an inheritance, was cleverly recommended to become king by naming him the Marquis de Carabas. While the king and his daughter were walking along the riverside, the cat cried out that the Marquis de Carabas was drowning, and had the king's servants rescue the man. The cat then falsely claimed that the Marquis's clothes had been stolen, and gave the king fine clothes. …
