...The surrounding area is the Baku oil field. The western and southwestern areas are the Lesser Caucasus Mountains (with the main peak at 3,000m) and the Karabakh Plateau, which provide good pastureland. The Lankaran lowlands, sandwiched between the Talish Mountains (with the main peak at 2,500m) at the southeastern end and the Caspian Sea, are subtropical, receive high annual precipitation (over 1,400mm in some areas), and are rich in flora and fauna.
