Aegina [island] - Aegina
An island in the Saronic Gulf of Greece. Also known as Aegina or Aina. Approximately 85 km2 . Greeks settled there from around 2000 BC, and it was active in maritime trade from around the 8th century BC. The first Greek coins were minted here. The remains of an ancient city can be found in the northwestern part of the island.
