Corn Belt

A belt-like corn-producing region in the Midwestern United States. It is also called the Corn Belt. It accounts for nearly 80% of the nation's corn production and one-third of the world's total production. For this reason, it is said that the price of corn on the world market is determined here. In the east, it stretches from the western half of Ohio to Indiana, Illinois (second in the nation), Iowa (first), Wisconsin, Michigan, and southern Minnesota (third), South Dakota, eastern Nebraska (fourth), and northern Missouri.

アメリカ合衆国中西部で東西にベルト状にひろがるトウモロコシの農業地帯。トウモロコシ地帯ともいう。全米トウモロコシ生産高の80％近くを占め，世界総生産高の1/3に達する。そのため世界市場のトウモロコシ価格はここで決まるといわれる。東はオハイオ西半からインディアナ，イリノイ(全米2位)，アイオワ(1位)，さらにウィスコンシン，ミシガン，ミネソタ(3位)南部，サウス･ダコタ，ネブラスカ(4位)東部，ミズーリ北部の諸州一帯にまたがる。
