Steam power plant; steam power station

Steam power plant; steam power station
A device that uses steam as the working fluid and generates power through a steam motor (mainly a steam turbine). The working fluid undergoes a cyclical change of state (→ steam cycle), converting thermal energy from fuel combustion into mechanical work. The main components are a feedwater pump, boiler, steam motor, and condenser. In a steam power plant, the mechanical work is often sent to the outside as electrical energy by a generator. Some are used in special factories to supply steam for work in addition to power. In this case, extraction and back pressure turbine power plant cycles are mainly used. A typical example of a condensing steam power plant with a condenser is a thermal power plant.
