Karae Mekki - Karae Mekki

During the Edo period, this was the title of a position responsible for inspecting, appraising, and copying foreign paintings, including those from China, that were imported through Nagasaki. The first person to hold this title was Watanabe Shuseki around 1697, and the Hirowatari, Ishizaki, and Araki families joined, and the position was passed down to these four families, all of whom lived in Nagasaki. 江戸時代，長崎を通じて輸入される品物のうち，中国絵画など外国絵画を検閲，鑑定，模写する役職名。元禄 10 (1697) 年頃渡辺秀石がなったのが最初で，次いで広渡 (ひろわたり) ，石崎，荒木の3家が加わって，上記4家がそれぞれ世襲し，いずれも長崎に居住した。
